Proofreading

A piece of text is like a garden, and every garden has weeds. No matter how careful and committed the authors and editors have been, mistakes creep in.

Proofreading, then, is like weeding the garden (albeit with a red pen instead of a Garden Weasel ®). When I proofread text, I'm keeping an eye out for typoes, punctuation errors, layout problems, and other issues that sneak in after a manuscript has already been edited.

My base rate for proofreading is $5/page, with a page loosely defined as 500 words (or portion thereof).

A: Yep! Embarassing, isn't it? Now imagine if that happened on your website or, even worse, the run of 1,000 brochures that you just spent a few hundred bucks on.

In fact, a different error slipped into this page while I was typing it, but it was thankfully caught by my proofreader. It was a pretty great lesson, so I decided to recreate the experience for you by slipping the typo into "typos."
